American 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
February 24, 2010The Home Depot Team Notes of Interest
- Joey Logano returns to Las Vegas Motor Speedway, one of the sophomore driver's favorite tracks on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series circuit, to try and improve on last year's finish. After starting from the 20th spot last year in the 400-mile race, he drove The Home Depot Toyota to a 13th-place finish. Logano led a lap and ran in the top 20 most of the race before crossing the finish line in the top 15.
- Logano moved up to ninth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings with his fifth-place effort in Fontana. It is Logano's first foray into the top 10 in the Cup Series' driver point standings. In the first two races of the Cup season he has an average start of 17.5 and an average finish of 12.5.
- The Home Depot Team earned its first top-five finish of the season at Auto Club Speedway with a fifth-place effort. Logano started from the 19th position, and after several adjustments and quick pit work by The Home Depot Team, was sitting in the seventh position for the final restart. After three and four-wide racing for the first few laps, racing settled down and Logano was able to pass two cars before the checkered flag waved. Logano and The Home Depot team improved in each of the three races at Fontana (26th, 14th and fifth).
- It was the team's second top-five finish at an intermediate track (Charlotte in October '09) since Logano took over the No. 20 ride last year. Logano scored two other top-five finishes at Loudon and Talladega.
- Logano will sign autographs for fans at The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on Saturday night from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Logano is there through a partnership with Joe Gibbs Racing apparel sponsor Wicked Quick. The Hard Rock is located at 4455 Paradise Road, Las Vegas.
- Welcome aboard The Home Depot associates from store # 6978 Brookwood, Ga. Brookwood is located just north of Atlanta.
- The No. 20 Team is taking chassis #252 to Las Vegas this weekend. This chassis competed twice last season when Logano drove it to two top-15 finishes. He drove chassis #252 at Richmond in September to a 14th-place finish and at Martinsville in October to a 12th-place finish.

Logano Quotes:
"I'm feeling pretty good about the start so far. We need to continue to improve like we have the first two races and keep the momentum going. That's what we need to do every week. I think what made a huge difference is I am able to give Zippy (crew chief Greg Zipadelli) better feedback now on what the car is doing and he did an awesome job adjusting on it last weekend. Plus the guys have just been amazing in the pits. We were able to keep up with the track and tune on the car all race which put us in the top five at the end. It's such a feeling of accomplishment for the entire Home Depot Team. I know it's early, but we're ninth in the standings and didn't put ourselves in a hole like last year. Now we need to keep it up."
On Las Vegas…
"Las Vegas is one of the tracks I enjoyed racing on the most last year. It was the bright spot during a tough start to the season. Last year the goal was to keep our nose clean and run every lap, which we did and it was one of the tracks that we adapted to well. If last week's improvements are a sign of what's to come, this should be a pretty good weekend for us."
