Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway
March 17, 2010The Home Depot Team Notes of Interest
- Joey Logano and The Home Depot Team will make their third start at Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend. In Logano’s first Cup event at the half-mile track he was running 27th with 10 laps to go before the engine expired on the Home Depot Toyota. Last fall Logano and the No. 20 team qualified eighth and had two solid practice sessions. Unfortunately the No. 66 car made contact with Logano in the opening laps that led to a flat tire on lap 11 and put the team 14 laps down while repairing the car.
- Logano sits 14th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings after four races this season and has accumulated 471 points. Last year at this point in the season Logano and The Home Depot Team were 33rd in the standings with 321 total points, a 150 point difference. They also have an average start of 17.5 this season and an average finish of 16.5.
- Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) has become a sort of nemesis for The Home Depot Team and its driver Joey Logano. Two weeks ago Logano was running mid-pack early in the race when the No. 20 was pushed into the wall by the No. 99 car after contact was made with the No. 12. Later in the race the right front tire blew on the orange and white Toyota, but Logano was able to finish the race in the 35th position.
- Smokin'Joe the boxer? Logano will participate in the fan event at Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday night when he trades his steering wheel for boxing gloves …sort of. Logano will go head to head in a Wii boxing tournament against teammate Kyle Busch, defending champ Elliott Sadler , Clint Bowyer, A.J. Allmendinger, fellow Toyota driver Scott Speed and Paul Menard.
- Welcome aboard The Home Depot associates from store # 8931 Somersworth, N.H. and store # 4502 Rutland, Vt. The Home Depot Toyota will carry the store numbers this weekend at Bristol. Did you know you can view videos of do-it-yourself projects, new products and right now spring projects on The Home Depot’s YouTube channel? Got to www.youtube.com/user/homedepot?blend=2&ob=4.
- The No. 20 Team is taking chassis #231 to Bristol this weekend. The team raced this chassis twice last year during Logano’s rookie campaign at Chicago and the Bristol night race where he finished 18th and 34th respectively.
- The Home Depot Team participated in the one-day Talladega test on Tuesday along with teammate Denny Hamlin in the FedEx Toyota, the No. 18 team and 22 other NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams to see what the new spoiler does on restrictor-plate tracks. The team will also participate in the two-day test at Charlotte Motor Speedway next week.
- Logano is back to driving double duty this weekend when he competes in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race on Saturday behind the wheel of the No. 20 Toyota before climbing into the Home Depot Toyota for the 500-lap main event on Sunday.

Logano Quotes:
On Bristol…
"Bristol has been a very frustrating track for me and The Home Depot Team. We’ve qualified well, run well but never finished well for some reason. We have always had good cars, but I’ve never had a clean race. So my goal is to have an uneventful race this weekend. I know that doesn’t sound very exciting, but if you have an uneventful race at Bristol you are going to finish well. We had a great car in the fall and we were out of it on lap six, that makes for a long day."
"You want to run well because it is such a cool track and a cool atmosphere. The fans love it and feel like they are part of the racing because they are so close to the track. It’s just an awesome track for the drivers, the teams and the fans."
On Talladega…
"The test was very different. The guys did a lot of work. They would change the plate, then change the spoiler height, then cut some of the spoiler off, then cut the ends of the spoiler. NASCAR did a lot of work trying to figure it out. I didn’t feel too much of a difference between the spoiler and the wing, but it’s Talladega and I didn’t really think you would. At one point, Denny and I hooked up in the big draft and pulled away quickly. We picked up like six miles per hour from the pack when we did that, and I knew we were going really fast. Not because I could feel it, but because I could hear it in the motor."
