Goody's 500 at Martinsville Speedway
March 25, 2010The Home Depot Team Notes of Interest
- Joey Logano and The Home Depot Team made a significant improvement from their first race at Martinsville one year ago to the fall race in 2009. Rain washed out qualifying and practice on Saturday in March last year which was Logano’s first trip to the short track. With practice limited to Friday, Logano was running in the top 25 when he blew a tire on The Home Depot Toyota to finish 32nd. However in the fall, Logano qualified eighth before driving to a 12th-place finish. He improved his finishing position by 20 spots and ran in the top 15 for the majority of the race.
- Logano sits 17th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings after finishing 27th last weekend in Bristol. He is just 43 points out of the top12, the cut off for the Chase for the Sprint Cup after five races. Logano has improved his qualifying effort in the first five races from 25.6 in 2009 to 14.2 this season and includes the pole position last week in Bristol.
- Logano added another milestone to his resume last weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway when he became the youngest pole winner in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series history beating out his teammate Kyle Busch for the honor. In just 44 starts, Logano has become the youngest Sprint Cup rookie of the year, pole winner and race winner all at the age of 19.
- The US Paralympic Sled Hockey Team captured the gold medal on Saturday in the 2010 Paralympic Games in Vancouver, British Columbia utilizing sleds designed, developed, built and donated by Logano and the Extreme Ice Center. The U.S. Sled Hockey team defeated Japan 2-0 on Saturday night to capture the gold and outscored their opponents in five games 19-0. Logano donated the money he received in the Coca-Cola Chug for Charity Program to help fund the project.
- Welcome aboard The Home Depot associates from store # 6515 from Lake Jackson, Texas. The Home Depot Toyota will carry the store number this weekend at the Goody’s 500 at Martinsville. The city of Lake Jackson originated in 1941when the town was conceived to provide living accommodations for the people who would work in the newly built Dow Plants. The city of 1,300 acres was carefully planned out before the first stone was turned and development began.
- The No. 20 Team is taking chassis #258 to Martinsville this weekend. The Home Depot Team utilized this chassis once last year at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. Logano qualified this car sixth before taking the checkered flag in the 14th position.
- The Home Depot Team participated in the two-day test at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Tuesday and Wednesday in preparation for the spoiler returning to the Sprint Cup cars beginning this week. It was the first open test at a 1.5-mile track with the spoiler instead of the wing.

Logano Quotes:
On Martinsville…
"Martinsville is one of the tracks that I felt like we improved a ton on last year. Don’t get me wrong, I still have plenty of room to keep going and plenty of things to work on. The one thing I learned in the spring race is the importance of staying off the brakes. Trust me when a tire blows on a short track because the brakes were too hot, it will ruin your day. But I had a much better understanding of what I needed the car to do in the corner and off the corner to use less brakes in the fall race. It’s a tough track and takes a lot of us back to our racing roots."
"We really need a solid finish this weekend in The Home Depot Toyota to get back up in points where we should be. I am still really pumped about going to the track every weekend because we’ve had really fast cars all year. We just need to stay out of trouble because we know now that we can run well."
On Charlotte Spoiler Test…
"I think we were okay at the test. We’ve been working on the Home Depot Toyota a lot and I feel like on Tuesday we probably came here unsure of what the spoiler was going to do. Today we got it driving pretty well we just don’t know what it’s going to do in traffic yet."
