Coca-Cola 600 - Charlotte Motor Speedway Advance

May 26, 2010

The Home Depot Team Notes of Interest

  • The Home Depot Team and Joey Logano remain in their backyard this weekend for the longest race on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series  schedule – the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  Charlotte is one of Logano’s best tracks on the circuit; he averaged a seventh-place finish in the two cup races at the 1.5-mile track last year.  In the scheduled 600-mile race last season shortened due to rain, Logano started from the 14th position and finished ninth.
  • Logano and The Home Depot Team are currently 18th in the Sprint Cup Series point standings following a 10th-place finish at Dover last Sunday.  Logano moved within 102 points of 12th place, the cut off to the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
  • He’s now 20 in the 20!  Logano celebrated his 20th birthday on Monday, after competing in his final NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race as a teenager in the All-Star event at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
  • Meet Logano and Zipadelli!  Fans of Logano and crew chief Greg Zipadelli can meet them at The Home Depot store #3603 in Charlotte, N.C. on Wednesday, May 26 from 5 – 7 p.m.  The store is located at 8135 University City Blvd.  There will be a children’s workshop, photo opportunities with the No. 20 Home Depot Toyota and an autograph signing by Logano and Zipadelli.  Wristbands for the signing will be given out one hour prior to the first 700 fans in line.
  • Welcome aboard The Home Depot associates from store #8439 from Hutto, Tex.  The store number will ride along with Logano this weekend in the Coke 600. Did you know the city adopted its own city flower? It’s a perfect complement to The Home Depot Toyota; it’s a bright orange daylily!
  • The No. 20 Team is taking chassis #272 to Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend.  This is a new chassis in The Home Depot Team’s stable. Its first laps on the track will be during practice on Thursday.
  • The Home Depot and the National Motorsports Press Association (NMPA) will once again team up in 2010 to present the Home Depot NMPA Humanitarian Award. This is the fourth year the award is being presented and the winner of the award will be announced during the NASCAR NMPA Myers Brother Awards luncheon in Las Vegas. The award recognizes an individual in the NASCAR community that has displayed a dedication to helping others and improving communities through their service and giving. The winner will receive a $100,000 cash donation made by The Home Depot to the recipient’s charity of choice and a specially-designed crystal award. Two finalists will each receive $25,000 cash donations to their designated non-profit organizations.

Logano Quotes:

On racing at Charlotte…

"Charlotte is one of my favorite tracks on the circuit, it helps that it's also one of my best tracks. Last week was a huge help for us, we learned a lot in the All-Star race.  It definitely gives as a good direction for the 600-miler this weekend as to how we want to unload and where we want to go during practice.  Zippy (Greg Zipadelli) and I talked a lot about the track changing from day to night, but to be honest we are not worried about it a whole bunch.  We practiced last week during the day and raced at night, so it gives you plenty of notes to go off of for Sunday.  I think The Home Depot Toyota should be pretty good this weekend and I’m really looking forward to it."
