Coke Zero 400 – Daytona International Speedway Advance
June 30, 2010The Home Depot Team Notes of Interest
- The Home Depot Team and Joey Logano head to Daytona International Speedway for the Coke Zero 400. Logano will be making his fourth start at the 2.5-mile superspeedway. Despite solid finishes in the Shootout at Daytona, Logano’s best points race finish at the restrictor-plate track was 19th in 2009’s Fourth of July event.
- Logano and The Home Depot Team moved up one spot in the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings following their top-10 run at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) and closed within 100 points of 12th place, the cut off to the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Logano backed up his race win last year at NHMS with a ninth-place finish on Sunday and moved up to 16th in the Sprint Cup standings. He is just 99 points out of 12th and 83 back from 15th.
- The ninth-place effort by Logano and The Home Depot Team last weekend was Logano’s 14th career top-10 finish. He has already equaled the number of top 10s he earned during the 2009 season after completing just 17 out of 34 races on the schedule this year.
- Welcome aboard The Home Depot associates from store #6546 from Missouri City, Tex. The store number will draft along with Logano on the rear quarter panel of The Home Depot Toyota this weekend at Daytona. Missouri City, which was affected by Hurricane Ike in 2008, recently purchased a Radio Station that would transmit traffic updates, emergency weather bulletins, NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) weather information and other types of emergency communications for its area outside of Houston.
- The No. 20 Team is taking chassis #235 this weekend for the restrictor-plate race at Daytona International Speedway. Logano ran this chassis at the Shootout in Daytona earlier this season to a seventh-place finish. The back-up car, chassis #212, was the car the team raced at the season-opening Daytona 500.
- Logano will be back running double-duty again this weekend behind the steering wheels of The Home Depot Toyota on Saturday night and the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Nationwide car on Friday. Logano earned top-10 finishes in both races last weekend at Loudon. This weekend marks the entry of the new COT in the Nationwide Series.
- The Home Depot and the National Motorsports Press Association (NMPA) will once again team up in 2010 to present The Home Depot NMPA Humanitarian Award. This is the fourth year the award is being presented and the winner of the award will be announced during the NASCAR NMPA Myers Brother Awards luncheon in Las Vegas. The award recognizes an individual in the NASCAR community that has displayed a dedication to helping others and improving communities through their service and giving. The winner will receive a $100,000 cash donation made by The Home Depot to the recipient’s charity of choice and a specially-designed crystal award. Two finalists will each receive $25,000 cash donations to their designated non-profit organizations.

Logano Quotes:
"I'm getting much better at drafting and more comfortable with it in The Home Depot Toyota. Last year we were running really well in this race before we got shuffled back at the end. The Daytona 500 went much smoother this year than last; I made it past lap 80 this time. This is one of the tracks where our finishes don't show it but we ran up front consistently the last two times we've been here. But this is Daytona and it's a superspeedway, so just about anything can happen."
"Our goal this year is still to make the Chase. Loudon has always been a tough track for me, so to come home ninth was big for me and this team. We struggled all weekend but came out with a top-10 finish. That's what it's going to take to make the Chase. If we can get through Daytona, we need to put together a string of consistent finishes. Finishes we know that as a team we're capable of getting."
